LOFT LAW EXPANDED TO COVER THOUSANDS OF NEW UNITS

Governor David Paterson signed into law an historic expansion of the Loft Law that will extend protection to thousands of new units throughout the City.  The new law will shield the protected tenants from arbitrary eviction, limit rent increases and require landlords to bring buildings up to code.

David FrazerDavid E. Frazer has dedicated his career to advocating the rights of tenants, while expanding his practice to include commercial litigation, real estate transactions and matrimonial disputes.  He defends tenants in every type of eviction proceeding.  David has developed a particular expertise representing loft tenants -- he has helped many of these clients win settlements in the six-figure range.

He also has extensive experience litigating condominium and cooperative housing corporation cases.  David has taken cases all the way to the Court of Appeals, the highest court in the state. He has represented hundreds of tenants in Housing Court, Supreme Court, Federal Court and all appellate courts.  David also practices before administrative agencies where he represents tenants in all manner of cases, including demolition, rent overcharge and certificates of eviction [“Mitchell-Lama”]. David also represents parties to a wide variety of commercial contract disputes, contractor litigation, mechanic’s liens and matrimonial matters. In addition to his solo practice, David is of counsel to the tenant-firm Himmelstein McConnell Gribben Donoghue & Joseph.

David, the father of three children, resides in New Jersey. His biggest regret is not having pursued his desire to be a rock critic though, given that he is tone deaf, that’s probably a good thing for the rest of the world. However, it doesn’t stop him from spending a lot of time surfing blogs looking for new music.
